As time went on though, it became more and more apparent that though the M in MTV stood for music, it wasn't actually their primary focus. After a while, I noticed less and less music, and more and more game shows. I cannot even watch the station today, though I'm conscious that I am now out of their target age group.
Nowadays, MTV music isn't what it used to be, if you can find it at all. Their program is full of reality shows and specials, and locating music videos is actually difficult to do.
Even worse, the MTV music of our times seems to be nothing but noise, although I guess that just makes me old right? The majority of it wouldn't even be labeled as music, but I am conscious that this really is just my opinion. I know that people who are younger than me enjoy it; it really is just not for me.
I really haven't thought a lot about MTV music videos in a really long time, but I have started to think about it again. My little girl is getting older and even though I hate the thought of it, I know she is going to outgrow groups like the Wiggles soon enough, and she might be listening to music that's made for older kids.
What scares me is the fact that I cannot discover any MTV music videos that I would really want her watching. I guess you can call me over protective, but I think kids are growing up too fast, and I want her to take pleasure in the freedom of childhood for as long as she can just before she is aware of things like sex and attempting to act and appear older.
The content of the majority of the MTV music videos makes my skin crawl. Ladies have come a long way during the past decades, but you'd never ever know it by watching some of these videos.
Self respect appears to have flown out the window, but to be fair, this has often been the case with the majority of the MTV music videos that have come and gone in the past. I guess it just seems to be getting worse, and the depravity appears to have gotten worse.
I don't want her identifying with any rock music band or kids rock music. I know I cannot keep her from seeing it permanently, but I hope I can hold her off for long enough to show her how a real woman ought to live.
